Artà is quiet and stone-built, a town of steep streets where most houses sit shoulder to shoulder and old shutters are the rule. The climb to the sanctuary sets the tone: streets can be tight and sloping, with little room to stop. Tell us how close to your door a vehicle can come, so that what has to be carried can be planned.

Good to know

Capdepera and Cala Ratjada belong to a separate municipality on the coast. The heart of Cala Ratjada is its harbour, with the old lobster houses still at the water's edge and flats and hotels rising behind. Homes near the front see salt and wind from two sides, and sliding doors on those balconies tend to run gritty by midsummer.

Further out are the villa streets among the pines, around Cala Lliteres and Font de sa Cala, where shade keeps terraces damp, so they turn dark and slippery in winter. A pressure wash there is usually a spring job. Ask for stone and tile to be treated according to what they are.

This corner is at the far end of the island's roads, so the drive counts for more on a small job than on a large one. A house opened only for the summer is the typical case here: tell us when you arrive, and we can look at a date before you do.
